Rosa Brooks - Tangled Up in Blue @ Pacific University

2:00 PM – 4:30 PM
Pacific University Washburne U.C. Room 110

Description

In 2015, Rosa Brooks decided to take a break from her full-time job as a law professor at Georgetown University and apply to become a sworn, armed reserve police officer with the Washington, DC., Metropolitan Police Department. In her 2021 best-selling book, Tangled Up in Blue: Policing the American City, Brooks recounts her experiences at the academy and on patrol in one of the most crime-ridden parts of the nation's capital, and she offers some unique insights from inside the so-called "blue wall of silence" to suggest what a truly transformative approach to policing might look like.

We hope you can join us in Pacific University’s Washburne University Center Room 110 (Multipurpose Room) on Wednesday, September 28th, from 2:00 – 4:30 PM for a special virtual presentation by Rosa Brooks entitled “Can Policing be Saved?” followed by an in-person moderated discussion with members of law enforcement about state and local policing policies and procedures. (Please note: Rosa Brooks will deliver her presentation from the East Coast and will NOT be present at the event.)

Registration for this free event is required and attendance will be limited to 60 people.

Funding for Rosa Brooks’ virtual appearance was provided by the Forest Grove Police Department, with additional institutional support from Pacific University's Student Multicultural Center.
