The Fire Witness by Lars Kepler was first published in 2011 and has been published again in November 2018 by Vintage Crime/Black Lizard. Lars Kepler in the pseudonym used by married couple Alexander Ahndoril and Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril. This is #3 in their Joona Linna series and it can easily stand alone if you have not read the previous books. However, this series is so intense that readers will enjoy reading everything by Lars Kepler. Joona Linna is a troubled detective in Sweden. He is called upon to observe the investigation of a double murder which takes place at a home for troubled teenage girls. A resident and a caretaker have been killed and a missing girl is believed to have committed the crimes. The detective is approached by a medium who claims to have been visited by the ghost of the murdered girl and Linna is intrigued by this. The story develops quickly but nothing is as it seems. This suspenful read will appeal to readers who enjoy murder mysteries with a twist.
(The third book in the Detective Inspector Joona Linna series) SERIES: 4. The Sandman (2014) - AVAILABLE THRU MNLINK
5. Stalker (2016) - AVAILABLE THRU MNLINK
6. The Rabbit Hunter (2017) OK but not outstanding. Kristi & Abby Tabby
The only thing this book has going for it is suspense. The writing is awful, the characters cliche. One super cop and everyone else is really stupid, leaning towards nasty and the women pathetic. The storyline for the most part jumps from one point of ridiculousness to the next.
This could have been much better with a talented translator and a skilled editor. As it is, you'll need to suspend logic and be prepared for nonsensical dialogue. Other than all that, compelling enough for me to finish it.
Kepler keeps the Joona Linna series going with this intriguing story that mixes runaway girls, mediums and detective procedure in the most interesting way. The writing style makes the most unpalatable circumstances readable; as a matter of fact, their books are hard to put down. I hope there is more to come from this husband/wife writing team from Sweden.
Addictive! Well told story with well developed characters and ideas. The end is a huge cliffhanger about what will happen next that could turn very tragic very quickly. Looking forward to it, but also nervous!
The best of the series so far! Just when I thought I had it figured out, the author threw another curve ball. I hope the next book in the Joona Linna series comes out soon. I didn't want this story to end.
these authors books are riveting. There may be implausible sections but hey! this is fiction and the authors can twists or omit any parts they want. It's still impossible for me to put one of their books down and neglect all the things I should be doing.
