A collection of five suspenseful short stories in which ordinary people are drawn into a series of extraordinary events. Don't Look Now takes place in Venice, where a pair of psychic sisters claim they can see the dead child of a bereaved couple. The Breakthrough is set in England at a desolate research station where weird experiments are performed. Not After Midnight takes place in Crete, where a schoolmaster on a painting holiday becomes involved with a mysterious couple and relics of the past. A Border-line Case is set in Ireland, where a woman seeks the meaning of her father's enigmatic deathbed cry. And The Way of the Cross takes place in Jerusalem, where the members of a guided tour face some unpleasant facts about themselves.

First Edition review:
Very enjoyable compilation of five short stories. Dark, suspenseful, and superbly written. I may be a bigger fan of Du Maurier's short form.
