Olivia Harker Cross owns a mountain -- or thinks she does -- in Pope County, Kentucky, a land where wolves howl at night. But now someone is killing the wolves of Big Foley Mountain, and Olivia is beginning to realize how much of her own bitter history she has never understood -- her mother's madness or her daughter's flight to California leaving her to raise William, her beloved grandson. But most of all, Olivia doesn't understand her town's rage, for Olivia has very real and dangerous enemies.

Now this proud, lonely woman will face her mother and daughter, her neighbors, and the wolf hunters. And when she does, she'll ignite a conflict that will embroil an entire community -- and change her life in the most astonishing ways.

Baker & Taylor
Living behind Harker's Grocery with a young boy named Will'm in 1938 Kentucky, Olivia is stunned when members of the exclusive Hunt Club suddenly turn their sights on the two of them, a dangerous situation complicated by the return of Will'm's mother and the exposure of the Rowe Street community's horrifying secrets. (Mystery & detective). Simultaneous.

This story was certainly about an important struggle in history, however the story did not move along well. Difficult to slough through.

I enjoyed the character, Olivia, quite a lot. Actually all of the characters and their interactions. I enjoyed the 'fight' Olivia was having regarding the wolves as well, and could relate to her cause to some extent. The writing was 'ok', I could visualize the scenes through the descriptions quite well. Interesting overall.
