While the residents of Pickax eagerly await a festival celebrating the 150th anniversary of the town's founding, newspaper columnist James Qwilleran must entertain Harvey Ledfield, an aspiring architect. Strange occurrences seem to follow Harvey around. Koko, the Siamese cat, leaps on his head, a knitter predicts murder, and a woman comes from California to leave a message for Qwill. This novel is less intriguing than the others in The Cat Who series, really not much of a mystery. In fact, Qwill’s mustache doesn’t twitch much in this one. It is still enjoyable for its tales of Pickax County and the little squabbles among its residents. If you are a fan of George Guidall, the series’ narrator, and Barbara Rosenblat – I love her Mrs. Pollifax audio contributions – you get a treat at the end, when Guidall as Qwill interviews the Cat Who author Lilian Jackson Braun, who is voiced by Rosenblat.
