Kyrian, a vampire, feels drawn to Amanda Devereaux, a conservative young woman who wants nothing to do with the paranormal, despite his goal of killing a vindicative vampire and her sister's penchant for vampire hunting.

McMillan Palgrave
In this first installment in the bestselling Dark-Hunter series, Kyrian of Thrace meets accountant Amanda Devereaux.

Dear Reader,

Have you ever wanted to know what it's like to be immortal? To journey through the night stalking the evil that preys on humans? To have unlimited wealth, unlimited power? That is my existence, and it is dark and dangerous. I play hero to thousands, but am known to none. And I love every minutes of it.

Or so I thought until one night when I woke up handcuffed to my worst nightmare: a conservative woman in a button-down shirt. Or in Amanda's case, one buttoned all the way up to her chin. She's smart, sexy, witty, and wants nothing to do with the paranormal--in other words, me.

My attraction to Amanda Devereaux goes against everything I stand for. Not to mention the last time I fell in love it cost me not only my human life, but also my very soul. Yet every time I look at her, I find myself wanting to try again. Wanting to believe that love and loyalty do exist.

Even more disturbing, I find myself wondering if there's any way a woman like Amanda can love a man whose battle scars run deep, and whose heart was damaged by a betrayal so savage that he's not sure it will ever beat again.

Kyrian of Thrace

& Taylor

A handsome immortal finds himself drawn despite himself to the prim and proper Amanda Devereaux, a smart, witty, and conservative young woman who wants nothing to do with the paranormal, in the first novel in the Dark-Hunter series. Original.

Like many others on this list - I did not start with this book in the series, although it technically counts as the first part of the story. Man - what a lesson that taught me about reading things in chronological order if possible. It's a fun paranormal romance, by an author who writes great series and keeps the character development growing. It's so entertaining to read more about the past of characters you've grown to love.

herrilyn Kenyon gets better and better. This is a shining example of what a paranormal romance should be. Kyrian of Thrace who I fell in love with while reading Fantasy Lover, is a man who was betrayed so badly by his wife that with his dying breath he sold his soul for vengeance and became a protector of mankind. Now, centuries later, he stalks the evil daimons ("vampires on steroids who have a God complex" [I really love that line]) who prey on humans. Amanda Deveraux (Selena from Fantasy lover who gave Grace the book sister) is an accountant who wants a normal life even though her family is beyond strange. When an evil daimon puts them together and aims to kill both Amanda and her sister and any Dark Hunter he can find, Kyrian steps in to protect them. While they fight the evil baddies, the two of them find love and Amanda helps to heal Kyrian's tortured past and wounded heart. The story is spectacular, filled with great zingers and comebacks. I loved every character from Nick (recommend reading Chronicles of Nick before book 9) to Acheron to Talon. The sex is steamy and hot and the pace fast and furious. I can't wait for the next Dark Hunter book. If you're looking for a read that you can't put down filled with humor, tenderness and red hot passion, don't miss this book.
Book 3 is Night Embrace, Talon and Sunshine's story. It is a great read but the library lost their copy a long time ago it seems. I got a epub copy off of amazon. If I ever find it in print I will buy it to donate to the library to fill out this wonderful series.

2nd book - but really the first "dark hunter" novel - preceded by "Fantasy Lover" and followed by "Night Embrace". Story of Kyrian and Amanda

Excellent characters but a lot of stories (past and present) to keep track of...I prefer more dialogue to know characters and less obsessing inside the leads heads. Looking forward to next book!

Although I really enjoyed reading the author's touching forward, like the other commentators, I found Night Pleasures to be a little too cookie-cutter.

This was my first SK book. Unfortunately it's one she wrote 10 years ago and imho has a bit of an amateurish feel to it (esp. at the beginning with all the poor attempts at humour) as compared to other authors I've read in this genre. This author has been around for a very long time and I'm sure her more recent books are going to be amazing when I get to them.

The world-building was simply "information provided". Missing for me was the writing of a creative, imaginative, unique world of immortals and greek gods. The characters didn't feel authentic to me and were stereotypical. What we get is characters 2,000 years old cracking lame, cheesy jokes! (I love humour in a book but I just didn't find anything funny). Perhaps if I had read book #0 first... I actually missed that there was a book before this one.

I found it odd that SK was skipping POVs randomly and constantly to whomever throughout the pages. Even to characters barely developed in this book. It was all so "convenient"... just like the type of powers Amanda had. They certainly popped up conveniently when necessary.

All in all, though, it WAS a pleasant read. The romance was great and had all the right ingredients to it and the plot/ending was satisfying even though predictable. Pretty good book but not amazingly written.

Amanda Devereaux has tried hard to distance herself from her family. She has become an accountant and dated the most boring men she can find. But still her family, full of vampire slayers and voodoo priestess manages to ruin her life when her fiance runs fleeing. Then Amanda wakes up handcuffed to a Shadow Hunter, a reincarnated human given vampire powers in order to hunt Daimons, the real vampires.

This bodice ripper is a nice romp, but there is nothing that sets it above average except for an interesting origin story for vampires. Beyond that, it is a toothache book, made to make you feel better when you are down.
