Lori Shepherd leaps at the chance to spend a few days away from her twin toddlers and hits the road to evaluate a rare book collection, where she stumbles across a mystery in the corridors of a Gothic castle.

Blackwell North Amer
It's raining so hard and the wind is so fierce that Lori Shepherd can barely see through the windshield of her Range Rover. And as the car continues to climb up and up this treacherously steep embankment on the high moors of Northumberland, Lori is beginning to doubt the wisdom of her latest adventure: perhaps the mind-numbing effect of caring for her twin toddlers wasn't so bad after all?
Lori is on her way to Wyrdhurst Hall, having jumped at the opportunity offered to her by Stan Finderman, her old boss, to evaluate a rare book collection. The collection is housed in the grim neo-Gothic castle owned by newlyweds Nicole and Jared Hollander. The hall, the books, and the journey to this remote and misty corner of Northumberland are full of surprises - some pleasant and some not so. Meeting Adam Chase, a charming, handsome stranger, is definitely a pleasant one - although Lori suspects he knows more than he's telling about the hall's mysterious secrets.
Lori falls under Wyrdhurst's spell - and Adam's - when she unearths a cache of World War I letters that tell a tale of doomed love and hint at a treasure hidden in the hall. It will take all of Dimity's supernatural skills to help Lori solve the puzzle and restore peace to a family haunted by its tragic past.

This is the 6th book in a series total of 24 titles as of year 2019.
Another mysteriously charming novel; each title in the Aunt Dimity and Lori Shepherd series is a different setting, offering varieties of historical information and local color to the plot.
This time, Lori is off on her own, traveling solo to review the vintage library in an ancient residential building.
Oh, my, the near death experience, the things that go bump in the night, the intrigue of the residence...the stories of its inhabitants, dark mysteries seeking the light....

This episode finds Lori getting involved with yet another attractive single man while on a literary assignment away from her husband and children. The writing is smooth and easy to read and lots of fun along the way with some spice thrown in too! But, I cannot figure out why a grown woman would be so attached to a stuffed bunny. That is odd. This is a series I enjoy coming back to for light bedtime reading.
