The time and place interest me, and I love historical mysteries. But that's not enough to make up for settings that aren't well described, characters that are unbelievable, and dialog that's wooden. To say nothing of action that, if it could have happened, seems unlikely to have happened as described. Even Catherine, the heroine, for all her learning and intelligence, is not believable. I almost didn't finish it, and I won't be reading others in the series, for all my interest in Heloise and Abelard.
