This is my second book from this author ( the first one read more than a decade ago was summarized as “ A Big Bore”). Unfortunately my opinion didn’t change much. So I don’t see what’s all the hype is about. This latest book leaves me with deep misgivings. Resnick’s jazz comments become a tad overdone after a while. Resnick himself is almost not there in many of the stories and the “criminals” take the spotlight. And it seams that it is always the same “criminals” ( or family of “criminals” ). Very disappointing . Now, Mortimer, of Rumpole glory, did way better in establishing a connection between the law and the low life. Also Mike Ripley and his taxi hero gives more satisfaction inside his books pages than can muster Mr Harvey. So, again, why the hype? I really don’t know.
