No Flying in the HouseBook - 1970
From Library Staff
I only read this because my sister did and I had to prove I could. But I still remember it after all these years, and Gloria the dog is a GREAT character.

SummaryAdd a Summary
One day Mrs. Vancourt finds a little 3 year old girl and a tiny talking dog on her porch. The dog, Gloria, can do up to 367 tricks, so Mrs. Vancourt agrees to keep the girl, Annabel, if Gloria will perform for Mrs. Vancourt's guests.
(WARNING: may spoil!)
Gloria always told Annabel that her parents will one day return. What Annabel doesn't know is that she is actually a fairy, and in order to free her parents from exile on a far-away island, Annabel has to choose to be mortal for the rest of her life over being a fairy, before she reaches the age of 7. Meanwhile there are also strange things going on with an enameled gold cat with sapphire eyes that Mrs. Vancourt's son broke before he ran away, long ago. Annabel once met this cat (who is actually an evil fairy) and it is through this fairy/cat (Belinda) that she comes to know the truth about herself.
