Sinister is quite an interesting movie... but not in the way expected. It is part ghost story, part murder mystery and part family drama, all of these elements combined makes the movie a tad too lackluster as there is always so much going on. This film seems to feed more on shock factor and being creepy (focusing on situations that could happen in real life) rather than displaying real horror. Sinister also contains many cliche horror tropes which at this point is overly recycled and frankly overbearing. The only real horror is the ghost children and the 'being' that is sinister. Other than that this movie is a drama about a writer trying to start over and regain connection with his family. Overall this movie is okay but definitely not that good. 3/5 Stars.

I like Ethan Hawke. This seems unlike his abilities. C’mon Ethan? Do you need the money?? Kind of stupid. Too many forlorned, quizzical looks. Baghuul ? Really? What was that all about? His wife was way to patient and complacent to be helpful. Fuzzy images help not explain what’s going on. Maybe someone could turn on the lights?? Not sure I understand why the kids were so creepy. I’m sometimes suspicious when it is directed, screenplay and executive produced by the same person (Scott Derrickson). Great creepy music at the end.

Not good. Extremely slow and boring that it lulled me to sleep.

Daft. That's the word for a film like SINISTER, one that doesn't feel like it put any effort into its development. It's films like SINISTER that diminish the horror genre as a whole, spitting in the faces of filmmakers like Spielberg and Hitchcock, who broke ground with JAWS and PSYCHO, respectively. This? Pfft. Don't waste your time. SINISTER is a disaster. I don't recommend it.

I love horror movies. I missed this one when it first came out. Thanks to the Ottawa public library or I would not have known it existed

I'd say that Sinister was a perfect example of why I've now gotten to the point of absolutely loathing supernatural-horror movies to the max.

Not only was Sinister's preposterous story a total insult to anyone in their right mind. But its plot-line actually expected the viewer to completely suspend disbelief for the sake of some predictable, 3rd-rate scares and a mess of icky gore.

Sinister introduced such a ridiculous overload of implausible nonsense into its demented, little story that I'm convinced that its screenwriters couldn't have had anything but pure contempt for the intelligence of their intended audience. It was so clear to me that they obviously perceived the viewer as being just a stupid, gullible fool.

It sure didn't help matters at all that every single member of the Oswalt family in Sinister's story came across as being nothing but an annoyingly dysfunctional misfit. And, so, in turn, how could I possibly give a bloody damn about what sort of nasty devilishness eventually happened their way?

I found “Sinister” to be a bit repetitive. There are better movies out there with a similar theme.
