A must view about cadets that attempt to prevent the closer of century old school due to board of directors decision. The school has magazine of weapons and a stand off occurs with the national guard and the cadets. A Must see to youngsters of current day mature actors: Timothy Hutton, Tom Cruise{ he was a really built sentry man and a loon for combat, George C. Scott, Sean Peen, John Navin.

"It's beautiful man!" It's doubtful that this rather tedious and heavy-handed movie would be remembered today if it weren't an important stepping stone for three young (at the time) actors: Sean Penn, Tom Cruise, and Timothy Hutton. It was Penn's film debut and Cruise's and Hutton's second film (the latter won an Oscar for his first, "Ordinary People"). It is fun to see them pre-fame, especially Penn who is baby-faced. But this an otherwise ponderous film about cadets at a military academy taking over when they learn it's going to be turned into condos, which is a very 80s plot point. George C. Scott plays the head of the school and has one good monologue about yuppies playing golf. Look for a young Giancarlo Esposito (Gus from "Breaking Bad"). Around the same time as this movie, military comedies like "Stripes" and "Private Benjamin" also came out.

Most people will name other movies that they consider to be Cruise and Penn's best work, but in my book this IS their best. What adds that little extra touch is having George C Scott in the movie. Great story, Great Acting and Great directing. This is a movie that I hope and pray Hollywood never remakes. They cant improve it if they decide to remake it. All they CAN do is turn it into a bad movie.
