One of the best films I've seen in a very long time. Great!!!

The story was too slow developing. The acting poor. This movie did not hold my interest.

Director Baran bo Odar’s bleak policier is not so much a thriller—we know who did it from the get-go—but rather a dark meditation on conscience, obsession, and the destructive power of remaining silent. Whether it be through despair or mental illness or sheer frustration, all his characters seem frozen in place and Odar’s long tracking shots of grieving faces and lonely fields heighten this sense of isolation beautifully. In the role of Jahn, a policeman still reeling from the death of his wife, Sebastian Blomberg’s unresolved anguish spirals into so much theatrics and hyperbole (at one point he wallows on the kitchen floor wearing her housedress), but everyone else puts in convincing performances including Ulrich Thomsen as the bad guy, a pathetic human being who would be pitiable were it not for his monstrous appetite. Overacting aside this is an unsettling ensemble piece, well filmed and tightly directed.

Painfully slow, poor acting, lots of fast forwarding just to see it to completion. If one thought 'only in the US' do these sickos ply their disgusting behavior one finds it's most definitely universal. The lethal injection is much to kind for their ilk. At least the subtitles were decent.

This is a 2010 German thriller directed by Baran bo Odar, based on the German crime fiction novel "The Silence (German: Das Schweigen)" by Jan Costin Wagner.
In the summer of 1986, Pia, an 11-year-old school girl, is raped and murdered in a wheat field near a small provincial German town by one man while another man watches silently from the passenger seat of his red car.
In 2009, exactly 23 years later, 13-year-old Sinikka Weghamm goes missing from the local fair.
Her bicycle is discovered in the same spot where Pia's bike had been found.
From the start, the film makes you want to solve this mystery.
At the end, however, you might feel disgusted because it has something to do with child pornography and pedophilia.
As a thriller, the film takes a unique perspective but the underlining theme is disgusting.

Agree with most other comments. Found it tooslow, certain scenes had no point & once again no real conclusion. Leaves too many questions for my liking. If not for these 'problems' I would have given 5 stars.

Quite interesting IF you can stomach the subject. Most will find it a bit slow, but that only adds to the overall feel of this film. Its not fast, flashy, full of effects. Its about people, life, and how everyone deals with uncomfortable situations, gets through it, moves on...or not.

Pretty good psychological thriller with some bizarre performances that take away from the movie as a whole.

This Is one heavy and thought - provoking movie exploring a series of sex crimes against children. It asks us to think about what it would be like to have sexual desires for children but be otherwise a decent person. What would that do to your soul? How would it influence your decisions? We understandably tend to have a knee-jerk revulsion for pedophiles. This film asks us to go deeper. I thought about it for days after watching it. It's slow, and it's often (as the title implies) silent, but if you are interested in human psychology and don't require a car chase or explosion every five minutes, I highly recommend this movie. The last few minutes are haunting.

Decent crime thriller. The pace is somewhat slow and the overall tone rather melancholy. The plot does not go quite where you expect it to.
