During project week, a popular and unorthodox high school teacher, in an attempt to stir up his lethargic students, devises an experiment that will explain what totalitarianism is and how it works. What begins with harmless notions about discipline and community builds into a real movement: the Wave. The teacher decides to break off the experiment. But it may be too late; the Wave has taken on a life of its own and is out of control.

This is an important movie, and I was grateful that it crossed my path. It is becoming more relevant by the minute. Any American director that wanted to make the news and lots of money should remake this for US audiences NOW.

this is definitively a movie to see. it is a eye opener to what"s happening in school class when teacher got a grip in manipulating and controlling his students their minds. including participating in a project that will change the life of the students forever. it is a sad story of power, control, doctrine , fascism . etc.... Don't miss on this one.

Excellent movie and highly recommended. Based on a true story, The Wave is about a "cool" teacher in Germany who comes out with an interactive lesson plan to teach his students about autocratic government. The students create a Nazi-like party they call The Wave, with it's own uniform and hand sign. Of course things get out of control when the students start to take this project very seriously and lives and emotions are affected by all. Other than the fact that this all happens in one short week, the movie presents how something like this could happen very easily and how easy it is for someone to just follow along and how hard it is to actually disagree with the majority. Film is in German with English subtitles, but you can change the setting to dubbed if the subtitles are hard to read, which they are in this version.
