Ricardo Tubbs lives with Bronx-born Intel analyst Trudy. The two work undercover transporting drug loads into South Florida to identify a group responsible for three murders. Sonny Crockett is undercover working with the supplier of the South Florida group. He becomes romantically involved with Isabella, the Chinese-Cuban wife of an arms and drugs trafficker. The intensity of the case pushes Crockett and Tubbs out onto the edge. Identity and fabrication become blurred, a place where cop and player become one.

This Blu Ray is NOT the generally-agreed-to-be-superior Theatrical Cut of the film.

Mann's Miami Vice movie is one of my top 5 favorite movies. Ok, let's break down that sentence:

Mann: MV06 is written and directed by Mann, unlike the show which he only produced on. It's an adaptation of the show in the same way that Thirst is an adaptation of Thérèse Raquin. The show was about being cool, this movie is about discovering who you really are.

Miami Vice: Ok so the main thing that's carried over from the show are the character names and the concept that these characters have know and worked together as policemen for at least 4 seasons. They trust each other and are all hyper-competent in their own way. But the point of the movie is the premise that an undercover agent is an actor who has to be perfect 24/7 when they're in the shit. And that a performance is drawn from a human in the end, and the quickness the undercover need to make make-or-break decisions drives them to, paradoxically, act out not a role as much as another side of themselves. A truth exposed from the need to deceive. That is then spun into a hardboiled, hidden and lurid world. They sync to its waves until they are inevitably forced into making it collapse like a dream.

movie: A lot has been made about this being not a film but a movie (for lack of a better word for a "digital video cinematic feature") which is a great aesthetic triumph. I don't think its achievement in that front is _solely_ what makes it such an interesting and entertaining watch, although its cinematography has led me to worship the ground that oscar-winning ASC Dion Beebe walks on. The movie looks like it was shot in the middle of a hurricane because it was (3 of them).

my Top 5: So we have some context as to what I enjoy (people have widely different tastes) it's this, Speed Racer, Last Year at Marienbad, Inside Llewellyn Davis and Blade Runner FC (recently replacing Antichrist as 5th as I find beauty more enticing than BIG MEME ENERGY these days)

Watch Miami Vice, but try to find the Theatrical Cut of this on some streaming service. I hope one day that cut will be available on Home Media.

The movie faces a significant challenge since the filmmakers want to portray things seriously and yet the original TV program thrived in terms of going over the top. As a result, the film is significantly flawed and has characters that act in ways that don't particularly make sense. At the same time, though, the visual style and overall cinematic approach looks fantastic. It's worth seeing, but don't expect anything more than a forgettable yet enjoyable action movie.

I really enjoyed this movie! I have seen it so many times that I've lost count. The acting cast is really good, the scenes and scenery (backdrop) of the movie including the story is entertaining. I liked Coin Farrell and Jamie Fox's characters and the strong female leads as well. The love story was a nice spin on an action/drama flick. I own this movie and will be watching it again!

I loved all the funny Scarface-like Caribbean accents and cursing!

The attempt of creating a realistic and gritty film version of the over-the-top cheesy show fails here. The movie is over-the-top and not realistic at all. The action, dialogue and story are all a bit much and the character development and acting were ok at best. Not a complete failure as an action movie, but don't expect too much.
