More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia's teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss -- a devastating wound that's cruelly ripped open when Claire's husband is killed. The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: what could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago ... and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.

I've never read any Karin Slaughter books before so what a great delight to discover her during the time of Co-vid and a winter that just wont quit! Highly recommended for murder mystery fans.

Wow. This book was...a lot. Just...it was a lot. I zipped through the first half but the second half dragged a bit for me. The story was horrifying and brutal and told very well. I think the last half could have been wrapped up a bit faster - since the storyline was so pressing it did get a bit frustrating to be given the run around but it was a very good (terrifying but good) book all in all.

Intense, gripping, and fast-paced; truly a page turner! Fabulous writing style but the downside of that was very graphic and disturbing content. TW/ sexual assault, torture.

As usual, Slaughter includes many drawn-out descriptions of the torture and murder of women. I find her plots compelling, but this one was even more gruesome than the average - really nasty. If you like details of how women can be tortured for extended periods of time, this is the book for you.

PRETTY GIRLS IS EXCELLENT!!!!

I loved PRETTY GIRLS. It is only the second book by Karin Slaughter I've read (both of them recently). You can call me a fan!

PRETTY GIRLS was so so good. It is a top-notch thriller that encompasses everything I love in the genre. There is a recently missing girl; there is a murder that leaves a widow to pick up the pieces; there is a conspiracy going back years and generations. There are two estranged, likeable sisters who must come together to stop the murder and torture of young women by a sick group that creates and shares snuff films and worse.

There is no slow parts to this page-turning rip roaring thrill ride.

Highly recommended for those that love to curl up with a greater character-driven mystery/thriller. This one grabs your attention and doesn't let go.

This is hands down my favorite book and got me hooked on this amazing author. The beginning was a little cheesy for me, but after I got past the first couple of chapters I was hooked! Perfectly gorey, suspenseful, and horrifying. What more could you ask for?!

I read this book in two days as I could not put it down. A very dark and disturbing read but very suspenseful and full of shocking twists. Was not a fan of the graphic torture and killings of women and skipped over most of the details.

OMGGG...this book was an unputdownable mystery. I can't believe this is my first Karin Slaughter read. It is well written with a believable plot and the different narrators not only offer many perspectives but the characters actually have substance. Even though I sat at the edge of my seat the whole time, I can't give it a 5 star only because I couldn't stomach the sexual violence. Needless to say, WARNING: there's explicit and extremely violent content.
