A #1 New York Times bestseller, this innovative and wildly funny read-aloud by award-winning humorist/actor B.J. Novak will turn any reader into a comedian. You might think a book with no pictures seems boring and serious. Except . . . here's how books work. Everything written on the page has to be said by the person reading it aloud. Even if the words say . . . BLORK. Or BLUURF. Even if the words are a preposterous song about eating ants for breakfast, or just a list of astonishingly goofy sounds like BLAGGITY BLAGGITY and GLIBBITY GLOBBITY. Cleverly irreverent and irresistibly silly, The Book with No Pictures is one that kids will beg to hear again and again. (And parents will be happy to oblige.)

From Library Staff

If you think a picture book without pictures would be terrible, you would be wrong. This is one of the most entertaining books to share with elementary school-aged kids you will ever encounter.

Added to the list at the Mayor's insistence. One of my very favorite story time books and if you don't know it, you most definitely need to check it out. Even if it is boring and serious.

This might sound boring. And serious. But the smartest kid in the world knows that it actually isn't.

This book must be really boring. But there's one catch: Make a grown-up read it to you and you'll see what I mean.

You might think it's boring to read a book with no pictures. Think again.

My 5 year old son (who is a skilled reader) thinks this book is hilarious and read it several times. It is a laugh-out-loud, entertaining book.

I didn't realize that the actor in "The Founder" and "Saving Mr. Banks" is a published writer. This one is so cute and even though I had no one to read it to, I read it out loud. Trust me, it made the book better! It reminds me of the classic "Monster At The End Of This Book". Like the title says, it has no pictures, but it definitely doesn't need them.

I was skeptical at first, but turns out this book is genius! It's definitely a read-aloud, but the laughs are sure to come. It's silly, but can also serve to help build relationships. Bonus: if you're a silly parent, you can ad-lib all you want to create a whole new experience. Very well done from BJ Novak!

This book brings on full belly laughs from kids (and adults) with every read. I dare you to say "blork" and "bluurf" with a straight face!

I judged this book by it's cover and never gave it much thought (despite it being by B.J. Novak) and what a fool I was! A young and enthusiastic patron asked me to read it to them and I'm not sure which one of us had a better time. What a great concept, especially for the unsuspecting adult like myself.

My son and I had such a good time with this book. For a book with no pictures it was still very entertaining. It is now his favorite book.

Think kids won't be interested in a book without pictures? They will be if that book makes their adult say the funniest things while reading to them!

REALLY FUNNY. Made me laugh so hard I couldn’t stop!

This book is definitely for those parents who want story time to be a bit of a "performance" for their child. As the book has no pictures, it utilizes text to make the reader say silly things. The best way to include your child is through dramatic interpretation of the text provided. It depends a lot on the reader, so it can be a little hard to read, but it can be fun depending on how the reader decides to read.

An excellent book for reading aloud. Have fun with it and you're sure to please!
