Hope Anderson is at a crossroads. At thirty-six, she's been dating her boyfriend, an orthopedic surgeon, for six years. With no wedding plans in sight, and her father recently diagnosed with ALS, she decides to use a week at her family's cottage in Sunset Beach, North Carolina, to ready the house for sale and mull over some difficult decisions about her future. Tru Walls has never visited North Carolina but is summoned to Sunset Beach by a letter from a man claiming to be his father. A safari guide, born and raised in Zimbabwe, Tru hopes to unravel some of the mysteries surrounding his mother's early life and recapture memories lost with her death. Even Nicholas Sparks admits he has a formula for witting his novels - romance and tragedy and a North Carolina setting.

" Grief is always the price we pay for love."

Tru Walls is a white African safari guide from Zimbabwe in the US to meet his biological father for the first time. Hope is an ER nurse cleaning out their family cottage next door while preparing the be a bridesmaid at a friends' wedding on Saturday. Thus is the basis for a romantic tragedy.

The scenery at Sunset Beach is lovely. Zimbabwe and safari life is amazing. Add that Kindred Sprint a mail drop on Bird island is a real site and you have the basics for a really good tragic romance. Nicholas Sparks doesn't disappoint.

Was so happy with what I thought was to be the ending, and then was disappointed when found wasn't to be.

I have read just about all of Nicholas Spark's books starting with my favorite A Bend in the Road and I have been hooked every since. I do have a confession to make, my name is also HOPE and found a few entries that came strangely close to my own, so I picked up the book and started reading it, im so glad that I did. He has the ability to make his characters as real as your next door neighbor, he makes you feel what they feel and when its over he leaves you wanting more. Sometimes it takes a bit to get to the juicy stuff. But in the end the journey is always worth it!

As much as I love Nicholas Sparks movies, this was the first of his actual books I've read. Probably will be the last. While others seem to enjoy his books and the plot in this was alright, I found his writing style quite dry and boring.

I've read quite a few of Nicholas Sparks books, and this one is a bit of a different take of the same old story. Likeable characters. It wasn't page turning for me, but I did finish it, skimming a bit from time to time. I would like to go to North Carolina someday and check out some of the areas that he writes about because they seem quite enchanting.
If you're looking for light reading, this is a good choice. A Walk to Remember is, and always will be, my favourite Sparks book, and yes, I read it before the movie. :)

One of my favorite authors. I've read all his books and this, by far and wide, was a deeply moving story. Wow. I felt this book in my soul.

Nicholas Sparks does not disappoint! Naturally, a box of kleenex should be handy - but then, if not your first try of a Sparks novel, you already know this. Well written, hard to put down until you get to the final page, and then you want to start all over to be sure you didn't miss anything along the way!
