Performers are good. Scripts were well done, even judged at to-day's standard as thrillers.

I rate this one 8/10. Waterman is great despite slow spots in an otherwise fast paced set of stories.

Circles of Deceit offers a melancholy take on the treadmill-like existence of a somewhat jaded, marginalized (manipulated?) government spy/operative circa mid-90's UK (Dennis Waterman). Captures the flavor of the time well. The presentation is in the form of 4 feature length episodes. Thoughtful cameo casting a bonus: Derek Jacobi, Leo McKern, Susan Jameson, ... All in all, a minor gem. NOTE: Acorn has shuffled the original episode sequence. Quite frankly with counterproductive results. The viewer is urged to watch the episodes in the following order: #1, 3, 4, 2. The festering Irish quagmire was intended to bookend the series.

Not my cuppa' tea.

Excellent British drama series. An older production, looks a bit dated and unsophisticated. But the themes are still timely: military and political corruption (redundant).

Brilliant scripts and acting; taut direction with building suspense and tension. Good low-key musical score is a perfect accompaniment. A winner.

Somewhat dated production values do not hamper the excellence of this gem of a series. Wonderful and gripping story lines, great acting by Dennis Waterman and his supporting cast. Watch for Nicholas Jones' portayal of an East German assassin in the "Sleeping Dogs" episode. Cold, cool, calculating with a businesslike approach to his killing. Marvelous to watch! A great series --- a shame more weren't produced.

These are gripping tales, and I would have liked to see more, but I don't believe any more were made. Pity.
