When FBI agent Clarice Starling is assigned a case involving a monstrous serial killer, she seeks counsel from an imprisoned cannibalistic psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter, whose fascination with the young woman is as great as his hunger for murder. As their relationship develops, Starling must confront her own demons, and an evil so powerful that she may not have the courage or strength to stop it.

From Library Staff

This one is mostly psychological - a little gore, but not bad.

Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) is downright frightening in this movie - it will give you nightmares for sure!

🦵🦷 This is a beautifully assembled movie, just the right buildup of suspense all the way to the climax. The principal actors both give outstanding performances, the script is literate, unbelievably intense, with great insight into the characters. And it's a horror movie, which seldom get this kind of first-class treatment. For intelligent adults only, kids can't stand this kind of tension.

When this film was released, it was quite the sensation./ The character played by Anthony Hopkins was thought to be nearly over the line of decency, and really frightening, too./ Recently, Ms. Foster was quoted as saying, 'i never met the man'---referring to Hopkins. That at first appears a head-scratcher, as there are scenes of her character confronting his, from outside his cage, looking within. This is possible to do, without the two actors ever being together. The director films each actor looking into the camera, saying their lines, and the way the film is cut makes it appear they are acting with each other, simultaneously. But it there are no 'one-shots' (a panoramic view of both actors, say, facing each other) then this can be done. It's all part of the 'suspension of disbelief' the viewers have to accomplish in order to be interested in watching the flickering images go by.

This was an ok movie. It wasn’t amazing but it wasn’t terrible. It was confusing at times and only mainly got interesting near the end.

Believe me - "Silence of the Lambs" is a totally laughable serial killer movie from 1991 that certainly takes itself way, way too seriously for its own good.

I mean, can you believe this one's even got an "intellectual" cannibal who (get this!) tries to take bites out of people who are still very much alive!.... (Ha! Spare me!)

Yep. This one's an over-rated waste of time from start to finish.

Part of classic Dr. Lector movies set.

This is a great movie and to compare this with other movies really clarify s the difference between a 5 star rating and a 3 or 4. Most movies which are pretty average should get a 3, a step up gets a 4 and ones like this are the real 5's. Anthony Hopkins was superb in the role of Dr. Hannable Lecture.

As adaptations go, this movie is pretty spot-on, and absolutely deserving of its many Academy Awards.

The writer Thomas Harris is in my humble opinion an amazing writer(much like Truman Capote) and his adaptations to the movie screen are truly Freakishly scary and makes one want to keep reading watching and edge of your seat horror! Stephen King and he must compare notes as the horror aspect-spine tingling cover your eyes and don't sleep for days afterwards! Best kind of way to be scared -in a movie theater or read a great novel or listening to one! :)

Dr. Lector, while in restraints is talking to a woman (she is a senator I believe) and the mother of a girl who was kidnapped by Buffalo Bill and still alive.
Dr. Lector - Did you breast feed your daughter?
Woman - what?
Dr. Lector, toughned your nipples didn't it? When a man loses his leg, he can still feel it tickle him. When your little girl is in the slab, where will it tickle you?

Hannibal Lecter: A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.
