2018; Little, Brown, and Company/Hachette Book Group
(Review Not on Blog)

At first, I was in this book, and suddenly I found myself feeling like I was pushed out of the story and was just getting the surface. I finished the book, but I started losing curiosity after 1/3 of the book. I felt like I was watching a preview of Dateline, without the ability of googling more on the story. To be honest, at this point I don't even remember what happened at the end. Again, I am in the minority so maybe I am reading too many domestic suspense novels. I am done with Megan Abbott's books for now but I would try another one if book friends recommended.

Strains plausibility a bit...but I love Megan Abbott's descriptive language. She captures the physicality of being a woman in really interesting ways. I also love her focus as an author on women engaged in traditionally male pursuits...more often athletics, but, in this case, STEM careers.

People. An intense friendship turns into a bitter professional rivalry.

This book is about two or more, psychopaths.

An interesting mystery and psychological thriller set in a science laboratory. Told from the perspective of a woman, and the two other main characters are women. I liked that aspect of the story. Also, the novel explores the nature of psychopathy, which is interesting. There is also quite a bit about the intense bonds between smart, competitive young women... and the frailty of those bonds.

I got this book because it was highly recommended but I found the story to be too over the top and, in the end, not all that interesting.

Friends, rivals, and dark secrets develop and turn into grim consequences. I found it not so much the story as the storytelling that kept my interest. Abbott has a way of taking the unbelievable and turning it into something plausable.

I find this story boring. I am reading it in bed, using the book to put me to sleep each night. I am waiting for the next book I have on hold then I will stop reading this one.
