Take "Eyes Without a Face", mix in some"Vertigo", add just a soupcon of "The Face of Another", and some unusually ferocious Almodovar gender bending, and VOILA! Not quite as much fun as it should have been, but the style is formidable, and really much more satisfying than "Broken Embraces". Pedro has done Banderas a great favor by casting him in this role, and he almost manages to remind us why we thought he was "all that" so many years ago. The real discovery here is Elena Anaya. This is the 2nd film of hers I've seen, and after "Room in Rome", and this, one applauds her commitment and audaciousness. (For a stunningly beautiful woman, she sure has no problem doing some weird sh-t).
