I like Anne Lamott for the same reason all her fans do, she’s honest and forthcoming in her truth, gratitude, and now, Hope. Like most Lamott groupies I highlight favorite passages and write my own thoughts in the margins for future reference. At a time when our country is so politically divided and hate campaign ads populate the television, now more than recent memory, a new Anne Lamott book was really something to look forward to. Or was it? What kept this book from a five-star read for me was that it too, contains her thoughts on politics, which was so deflating when one seeks solace, an aversion from hate. On this one, we must agree to disagree and move on. “If we focus on [the elephant in the room] it’s too easy to lose all hope in life and humanity.” Reset.
