High Interest, Low Lexile Teen Reads
Is your teen struggling with reading? The following teen titles have a Lexile of 180-650. It's important to understand that Lexiles aren't a perfect tool. For example, if a student is reading to learn new information, they likely need text that is at the low end of their Lexile range or below. If a student is reading to strengthen their reading skills, they should read text in the middle to higher end of their Lexile range. If they are reading for pleasure, they should whatever interests them regardless of Lexile--this develops reading fluency, confidence in their reading skills, and motivation to read. Lexiles do not take into account the age of your student nor the content of the text. Thus, students may need guidance selecting titles in their Lexile range that interest them and align with their family values.
